98 Class 111 Inventory, Colotivyo's Collom Mine Project
The site occurs within the mine permit boundary, but it is recommended as not eligible for the
NRHP, and the current project will have no effect on the site. Cultural resource clearance is
recommended with no further work.
6.1.21 Site 5MF6079 (NF -20)
Site Tyne Prehistoric lithic scatter
Legal Locatio Section 13, T4N, R94W
Landowner Private
Site Dimensio 72 x 47 m
Site Descriptio Site 5MF6079 is a diffuse prehistoric lithic scatter located on the northeast -slope
of a northeast - trending ridge (Figure 6.45). The site lies at 6,680 ft (2,036 m) and overlooks the
ip mouth of Collum Gulch to the southeast and is northwest of the confluence of Collum and Little
Collum Gulches (Figure 6.46). The ridge spine shields Morgan Gulch from view to the west. The
general area consists of broad northeast - trending ridges and gulches with Axial Basin located to the
north. Exposures of sandstone bedrock are common throughout the area in general and within the
site proper. On -site sediment consists of shallow aeolian silty sand intermixed with gravel and
eroding bedrock detritus. The vegetation community consists of dense sagebrush, rabbitbrush,
cheatgrass, low grasses, and various forbs. Impacts to the site include slopewash and livestock
trampling.
The diffuse lithic scatter consists of 31 pieces of debitage. The flake assemblage consists of
28 tertiary flakes and three secondary flakes. White opaque chert is the most common material type
with 26 flakes (23 tertiary and three secondary flakes). The remainder consists of three
semitranslucent chert tertiary flakes and two quartzite tertiary flakes.
Testing Results Two shovel tests were excavated at the site with negative results. The sediment
matrix identified in both shovel tests consisted of silty sand with gravel to a maximum depth of
47599 TRC Mariah Associates Inc.
