r
The debitage assemblage consists of 20 flakes comprised of 15 tertiary flakes, four secondary flakes,
86 Class III Inventory, Colowyo's Collom Mine Project
and one piece of shatter. Quartzite is the most common material type with 11 flakes (eight tertiary
and three secondary flakes). The remainder consists of eight opaque chert flakes (six tertiary and
one secondary flakes and one piece of shatter) and one semitranslucent chert tertiary flake.
The groundstone artifact assemblage consists of three manos and one metate. The first mano is a
complete quartzite cobble that measures 10.0 x 7.0 x 2.5 cm and exhibits two ground faces and
battering on one end. The second mano is a complete quartzite cobble that measures 10.0 x 9.8 x
5.0 cm and exhibits heavy grinding on three surfaces. The third mano is a sandstone cobble that
measures 13.8 x 8.4 x 3.5 cm and exhibits heavy grinding on three surfaces and battering along one
edge. The incomplete metate consists of two refittable tabular sandstone pieces that combined
measure 24.3P x 20.3P x 3.5 cm. It exhibits moderate grinding on one surface and no evidence of
shaping, battering, or pecking.
NRHP Eligibility Recommendation and Project Effect Site 5MF6075 is recommended as not
eligible for listing on the NRHP when evaluated under Criterion D. The site has a limited density
and diversity of artifacts and no dateable cultural features or temporally diagnostic artifacts. The site
is located on colluvial sediment and has been affected by slopewash and is not in primary context.
The site has little or no potential to contain intact significant subsurface cultural deposits.
•
The site is located within the mine permit boundary. However, because the site is recommended as
not eligible for listing on the NRHP, the current project will have no effect. Cultural resource
clearance is recommended with no further work stipulated.
6.1.18 Site 5MF6076 (NF 11/13/19)
Site Tyne Prehistoric open camp
Legal Locatio Section 12, T4N, R94W
47599
TRC Mariah Associates Inc.
