DRAFT
id 0
INTRODUCTION
Water Management Consultants, Inc. (WMC) has prepared this work plan to
characterize the project -wide groundwater, surface water, and geochemical
environments for the proposed Collom Pit expansion of the Colowyo Coal Mine (CCM)
Kennecott Energy Company (KEC) is considering the development of the Collom mining
pit, located approximately four miles west of the current Colowyo mining operation. The
current operation is located in Northwest Colorado, mid way between the cities of Craig
and Meeker on Highway 13 at mile marker 64.
In anticipation of proceeding with development of the Collom Pit, this work plan has
been designed to collect baseline and long -term information to support mine permitting,
to define the groundwater /alluvial water regime and to evaluate key hydrologic issues
associated with project development. This work plan has been designed to collect the
data which is necessary to characterize the pre- mining environment as directed by the
Colorado Surface Coal Mining Reclamation Act, the Regulations of the Colorado Mined
Land Reclamation Board for Coal Mining, and the Guidelines for the Collection of
Baseline Water Quality and Overburden Geochemistry.
KEC wishes to present this work plan to the Colorado Division of Minerals and Geology
for their preliminary approval. A good working relationship with the CDMG is important
to KEC and every effort will be made to accommodate any suggestions or concerns
their experts may have.
•
2572 -R1 Colowyo Coal Company, L.P.
Water Management Consultants
