378 Class III inventory, C Is Collom Mine Project
comprehensive testing plan to determine the site's NRHP eligiblity. Following this stipulation,
cultural resource clearance is recommended.
6.2.38 Site 5MF4011
Site Type Open camp
Legal Location Section 21, T4N, R93W
Landowner Private
Site Dimensio 150 x 120 m
Site Descripti Site 5MF4011 occurs outside of the northeastern boundary of the current
Colowyo Collom Mine project and was recorded in 1995 by MAC for Colowyo Coal Company's
1995 lease and exploration areas project. The site was described as an early Late Prehistoric open
camp situated at 6,600 ft (2,012 m) on an east/west - trending finger ridge overlooking Wilson Creels,
which is about 500 ft (152 m) to the east (Figure 6.229). The artifact assemblage included one
side - notched projectile point (collected), one biface fragment, one scraper, and flaked d.ebita g e.
Heat- altered quartzite was also noted scattered lightly across the site, but no evidence of hearths was
observed. Sediments at the site were characterized as shallow residual/colluvial brown sandy loam
throughout most of the site, but an aeolian deposit was observed in the northeastern portion of the
site that was proposed to possibly contain intact buried cultural materials. Vegetation was described
as sagebrush, serviceberry, juniper, rabbitbrush, prickly pear cactus, and various grasses. The site
had been impacted by construction of a powerline and adjacent two -tracks road.
The current inventory discovered one mano and one biface fragment near the eastern boundary of
the site (Figure 6.230). The site continues to deteriorate, and the flake concentration has eroded
away. Only four flakes were observed along the ridge near the west edge of the site. One diagnostic
projectile point fragment was collected in 1995.
•
47599 TRC Mariah Associates Inc.
