Class III Inventory, Colowyo's Collom Mine Project 365
(is building and structures on the site are in ruins, have poor physical integrity, and possess no
significant engineering or architectural attributes of design, materials, or workmanship. The
materials are of local origin. The site has no potential to further the understanding of local or
regional historic settlement, subsistence and domestic activities, or socioeconomics patterns.
The site is eligible for the NRHP under Criterion D and currently lies approximately 1,000 ft (305 m)
outside of the northeastern boundary of the revised project boundary, but it is adjacent to the
proposed access road and pipeline corridor. Disturbance to the site would cause an adverse effect.
The site should be avoided until subsurface testing evaluations and data recovery excavations are
completed. A testing and data recovery plan has been submitted as a separate document. Following
this stipulation, cultural resource clearance is recommended.
6.2.32 Site 5MF4004
t Site Tyne Open camp
Legal Locatio Section 22, T4N, R93W
Landowner Private
Site Dimensio 160 x 90 in
Site Descripti Site 5MF4004 occurs outside the northeastern boundary of the current Colowyo
Collom Mine project area and was recorded in 1995 by MAC for the Colowyo Coal Company's 1995
lease and exploration areas project. It was described as a Middle to Late Archaic period open camp
located at 6,000 to 6,560 ft (1,829 to 1,999 m) on a gentle slope of the northern tip of a finger ridge
that overlooks Wilson Creek, about 800 ft (244 m) to the west. Small bedrock outcrops occur across
the site (Figure: 6.223). The site was observed to be in fair condition, and the artifact assemblage
included an estimated 50 to 100 tertiary flakes, numerous scattered heat - altered sandstone and
angular fractured quartzite fragments, one utilized flake, and four Archaic projectile points that were
collected. The sediments at the site were characterized as shallow (approximately 10 cm) residual
brown sandy loam with angular sandstone gravels and slope- washed residuum.
