I 1
LJ
360 Class III Inventory, Colowyo s Collom Mine Project
have been a root cellar and measured 13 x 20 ft, Feature 3 was an earthen berm and slab foundation
of sandstone blocks that was 20 x 33 ft, and Feature 4 was a chicken coop built of milled lumber that
was 2 x 4 ft. The artifact assemblage consisted of window glass and brown bottle glass fragments,
one coffee can, approximately 20 wire nails, and several assorted utilitarian and light industrial
items.
The current inventory found the site to be in ruins. It contained the same features and artifacts as
those recorded in 1995, and the physical condition had further deteriorated (Figure 6.220).
A review of the MTP and Historical Indices for T4N, R94W, and the BLM website shows that
Harry Orr received a Homestead Entry Patent (HE No. 1108547) for 320 acres on June 17, 1940.
The patent was filed (038770) at the General Land Office in Denver and was not cancelled or
relinquished (BLM n.d.). This would date the time frame of initial occupation to the late
Depression/early World War It era.
• Figure 6.220 Feature 1, Site 5MF4002, Looking Northeast (Taken by Bob Shinkle, 8/19105).
47599 TRC Mariah Associates Inc.
