356 Class III Inventory, Colowyo's Collom Mine Project
Research by MAC in 1995 indicated that the site was likely homestead by George Collins. A review
of the MTP and Historical Indices for T3N, R94W, shows that the site lies within a 242 -acre parcel
that received a Homestead Entry Patent (HE No. 1025187) on March 26, 1929. The BLM website
lists George W'. Collins as the patent holder for 325 acres. The patent was filed (035636) at the
General Land Office in Denver and was not cancelled or relinquished. This would place the initial
time frame of occupation during the Depression era.
NRHP Eligibility Recommendation and Project Effect Site 5MF4000 was recommended as not
eligible for inclusion on the NRHP, and the Colorado OAHP officially agreed with that evaluation.
The current inventory evaluation also concurs with that assessment. The site is not associated with
any event or person (George Collins) that played a significant role in the history of the region. The
collapsed cabin has a utilitarian design with poor physical integrity and does not exemplify any
particular qualities of craftsmanship. There is no potential for buried cultural deposits. The site will
contribute no significant information regarding domestic or socioeconomic activities conducted at
the site.
The site currently lies within the mine permit boundary and may be affected by the undertaking.
There will be no effect from the proposed project because the site is recommended as not eligible
for the NRHP. Cultural resource clearance is ecommended, with no further work.
6.2.29 Site 5MF4001
Site Tyne Historic homestead
Legal Locatio Section 10, T3N, R94W
Landowner Private
Site Dimensio 131 x 118 ft
Site Descriptio Site 5MF4001 occurs within the southern portion of the current Colowyo Collom
Mine project area. It was originally recorded by MAC in 1995 for the Colowyo Coal Company lease
47599 TRC Mariah Associates Inc.
W
