348 Class III Inventory, Colowyo's Collom Mine Project
(o
site lies within a 320 -acre parcel that received a Homestead Entry Patent (HE No. 960636) on
May 28, 1925. The patent was granted to Jesse N. Page. It was filed (No. 015649) at the General
Land Office in Glenwood Springs and was not cancelled or relinquished. The inscription and patent
dates place the initial time frame of occupation during the early Depression era.
NRHP Eligibility Recommendation and Project Effect Site 5MF3994 was recommended as not
eligible for the NRHP in 1995, and the Colorado OAI-IP officially agreed that the site was not
eligible. The site is only loosely associated with a period of increased settlement of the region in the
1920s and 1930s, and it did not contribute to settlement during Colorado's territorial period or early
statehood. The site is not associated with a person(s) (Jesse Page) of historic significance. The cabin
itself has poor physical integrity, exemplifies no significant architectural or engineering attributes
of design, materials, or workmanship, and the outhouse has collapsed. There is no potential for
intact buried cultural materials, and the research potential of this site has been exhausted.
The site currently lies within the mine permit boundary and may be affected by the undertaking.
0
Because the site is recommended as not eligible for the NRHP, there will be no effect from the
proposed project. Cultural resource clearance is recommended, with no further work.
6.2.25 Site 5MF3995
Site Tyne Historic homestead
Legal Location Section 34, T4N, R94W
Landowner Private
Site Dimensions 203 x 75 ft
Site Description Site 5MF3995 lies within the western portion of the current Colowyo Collom
Mine project area and was previously recorded by MAC in 1995 for the Colowyo Coal Company
lease and exploration areas project. It was described in 1995 as an abandoned historic residence
adjacent to the eastern bank of the stream in Collom Gulch and along the lower western slope at the
47599
TRC Mariah Associates Inc.
M
