346 Class III Inventory, Colowyo's Collom Mine Project
The site occurs adjacent to and partially within the revised project boundary and proposed access and
may be affected by the undertaking. Because the site is recommended as not eligible for the NRHP,
there will be no effect from the proposed project. Cultural resource clearance is recommended, with
no further work.
6.2.24 Site 5MF3994
Site Tyne Historic homestead
Legal Location Section 31, T4N, R93W
Landowner :Private
Site Dimensions 98 x 82 ft
S ite Description Site 5MF3994 occurs within the eastern portion of the current Colowyo Collom
Mine project. The site was originally recorded in 1995 by MAC for the Colowyo Coal Company
1995 lease and exploration areas project. The site was described as a nondescript cabin in poor
condition with an outhouse and little associated debris located at 7,060 ft (2,152 m) on a small bench
in a chokecherry and Gambel oak grove above the East Fork of Jubb Creek (Figure 6.212). Soils
were described as colluvial sandy loam, and on -site vegetation consisted of rye grass, marsh grass,
scurvey grass, and dandelion. Surrounding vegetation was noted as mountain big sagebrush
grasslands.
Feature 1 consisted of a standing one -and -a -half story log cabin that was 17 x 19 ft and 10 ft high
(Figure 6.213). The logs were rectangular and hand -hewn in shape with square- notched corners, and
the foundation consisted of sandstone rocks. The roof was collapsed, and the ceiling and floor were
in ruins. Feature 2 was a collapsed outhouse made of milled lumber. A modest artifact assemblage
of domestic and utilitarian items was scattered over the site including a 1926 Colorado license plate.
The inscription "Ty Waters Feb. 13, 1925" was found penciled on the existing north window frame.
The current inventory found the site to be essentially unchanged but more deteriorated than in 1995.
A review of the MTP and Historical Indices for T4N, R93W, and BLM website indicates that the
47599
TRC Mariah Associates Inc.
