342
6.2.22 Site 5MF1935
Class III Inventory, Colowyo's Collom Mine Project
Site Type Open camp
Leal Locatio Section 21, T4N, R93W
Landowner Private
Site Dimensions 90 x 70 m
Site Description Site 5MF1935 is located adjacent to but outside the northeast portion of the
project boundary of the Colowyo Collom Mine project and was recorded by Nickens and Associates
in June 1984 for the Danforth Hills coal lease area project. MAC revisisted the site in 1995 for the
Colowyo Mine lease and exploration area.
The site was originally recorded as a modest open camp consisting of a sparse lithie scatter
( consisting of chert and quartzite flakes and three eroded hearths (one of which was eroding out of
a small wash). Five very small flakes were found in an anthill. The 1995 inventory could not
relocate the hearths but did discover a heavily resharpened stemmed projectile point that was
collected, and the site boundary was expanded accordingly. Soils were observed to be colluvial with
some slopewashed residuum, and sandstone boulders and outcrops occur on the surface.
The site was relocated during the current inventory. Two flakes were noted on the surface but the
site datum could not be found and the anthill was gone. The site is situated on the lower east- facing
slope of a northeast - trending ridge and overlooks Wilson Creek at 6,480 ft (1,975 m) (Figure 6.210).
The surface soil is tan colluvial and residual silty sand overlying residual sandstone gravels and
cobbles. Vegetation consists of low sagebrush, with scattered low rabbitbrush and various grasses
and forbs. The site has been impacted by erosion and road disturbance.
NRHP Eligibility Recommendation and Project Effect Site 5MF1935 was originally
recommended in 1984 as needing more data due to the possibility of buried deposits. The 1995
inventory assessed the site as still needing more data but that the colluvial and residual soils on the
1]
47599 TRC Mariah Associates Inc.
