Class III Inventory, Colowyo's Collom Mine Project 337
potential to contain intact significant subsurface cultural deposits or provide any additional
information that would significantly further the prehistory of the region.
The site lies within the mine permit boundary, but it is not eligible for the NRHP and there will be
no project effect. Cultural resource clearance is recommended, with no further work.
6.2.21 Site 5MY1656
Site Tyne Historic homestead
Legal Location Section 25, T4N, R94W
Landowner Private
Site Dimensions 453 x 115 ft
C Site Description Site 5MF1656 lies within the northwest portion of the current Colowyo project
boundary and was recorded in 1983 by TRC Mariah for the Utah International Inc. Danforth Hills
project. The site consisted of the ruins of a homestead, with features and artifacts located just west
of a stock pond and earthen dam in the bottom of Little Collom Gulch along the west side of the
stream at the base of a steep slope at 6,760 ft (2,060 m) in elevation (Figure 6.208). No soil or
vegetation information is provided on the original form or in the report.
•
Features 1 and 2 were dugouts located at the base of the steep slope. Feature 1 was 9 ft 6 inches
north/south x l l ft 6 inches east/west and excavated into the hillside about 5 ft below the present
ground surface. Feature 2 measured roughly 6 ft east/west x 6 ft north/south and was about
19 1/2 inches below the ground surface. Both features were lined with dry -laid sandstone blocks,
and there were saw -cut wood beams and sheet metal from the roofs collapsed into both dugouts. A
low (22 -inch) single north/south- trending row of sandstone blocks formed the remains of a retaining
wall (Feature 3) that was 49 ft 6 inches long at the north end of the site. Wood planks (Feature 4)
lay between Feature 1 and the retaining wall. Barbed wire sheep wire fencing, fence posts, sheet
metal, window glass fragments, and two metal buckets lay scattered between the features.
47599
TRC Mariah Associates Inc.
