amec
Earth & Environmental
E) Overburden to Stockpile
1) VLF
No work performed during the week.
F) Cut to Fill
1) VLF
A CAT 385 excavator and a John Deere 850 excavator were used to excavate structural fill
material between stations E14+00 (+/-) and E16+00 (+/-), approximately 0 to 50 feet right of
centerline and between stations J27+00 (+/-) and J29+00 (+/-), approximately 75 to 100 feet
right of centerline. The structural fill material was loaded into CAT 777 haul trucks.
Prior to structural fill placement existing fill areas were ripped and frost was allowed to thaw
or was removed. Existing fill temperature were monitored and found to be above 32°F before
fill placement. An AMEC representative monitored ambient temperatures on an hourly basis
during fill placement. Fill temperatures were monitored during ambient temperatures below
32°F and averaged 39°F to 44°F.
Structural fill was placed in the following areas: between stations B1+00 (+/-) and B4+00 (+/-),
approximately 50 feet left of centerline to 50 feet right of centerline; between stations 131+00
(+/-) and D4+00 (+/-), approximately 0 to 75 feet left of centerline; between stations 171+50
(+/-) and F3+50 (+/-), approximately 0 to 50 feet right of centerline; and between stations
J16+00 (+/-) and J22+50 (+/-), approximately 50 to 75 feet left of centerline. Structural fill was
placed in 18" to 24" lifts using various CAT dozers. Each lift was moisture conditioned using a
CAT 773 water truck (when necessary) and compacted using a 10-ton vibratory smooth drum
compactor, passing over the entire fill surface at least 4 times (method compaction technique is
applicable).
Structural fill (processed ore) was placed within the Phase IVa VLF between stations G13+00
(+/-) and G15+00 (+/-), approximately 75 to 150 feet right of centerline. Fill material
(processed ore) was excavated from the Phase lVc re-certification area, the old LOB haul road,
and the southeast corner of Phase 1Va using a CAT 375 excavator loading the material into 40-
ton articulating haul trucks. Structural fill was placed using a CAT D-8 dozer in 12" loose lifts
and moisture conditioned as needed using a CAT 773 water truck. Compaction was achieved
using a 10-ton vibratory smooth drum compactor. Nuclear density testing was performed with
results averaging 95% of maximum dry density. Moisture density relations were obtained in
accordance with ASTM D698-07. Ambient and fill temperatures were monitored and recorded
during the placement of the processed ore in this area.
Blast pattern drilling was performed between stations E12+00 (+/-) and E16+00 (+/-),
approximately 0 to 50 feet right of centerline using three track mounted drill rigs. Blasting was
performed in these areas Monday (11/23/2009) and Tuesday (11/24/2009).
G) Material Processing
1) South Cresson Clay Processing Area
Processing of Soil Liner Fill material continued at the South Cresson Clay Process. A CAT D-8
dozer, a CAT 320 excavator, and a CAT 966 front-end loader were used to process the material.
VLF Weekly Report WE 11.28.09.D.doc
