ameO
Earth & Environmental
Granular Fill material (CEntry specification) was hauled to the new ADR tank manhole excavation
using a 40-ton articulating haul truck loaded by a CAT 966 front-end loader. The material was
placed in two 8" lifts and compacted using a jumping jack compactor. Four nuclear density tests
were performed by an AMEC representative with results averaging 95% of maximum dry density.
H) Miscellaneous
No work performed during the week.
III) Underground Working
A) Drilling
No work performed during the week.
B) Mine Shaft/Stope Remediation
No work performed during the week.
C) Lateral/Slot Remediation
No work performed during the week.
IV) Storm Water Management Structures
A) Control Structures
No work performed during the week.
B) Best Management Practices
Best Management Practices are being observed throughout the VLF Phase 5 Project. Storm water
controls were improved throughout the week. A CAT 345 excavator was used to construct a trench
along the east side of the K-line road, discharging into the existing diversion channel. Sumps were
also constructed along existing haul roads for storm water control.
V) VLF Geosynthetics
No work performed during the week.
CQA ACTIVITIES:
SUMMARY:
The CQA activities performed consisted of observing, documenting and recording the construction
activities of the contractor.
AMEC observed placement of structural fill within the Phase 5 VLF fill area.
AMEC observed and accepted subgrade preparation within the Phase 5 fill area.
AMEC observed the construction of the new ADR water tank. Subgrade was accepted for granular fill
placement. Granular fill placement was also observed and tested by an AMEC representative.
Testing Summary
Laboratory testing continues (Particle Size Distribution, Atterberg Limits, and Moisture-Density
Compaction testing) for sampled materials.
Sheet 4 of 8
VLF Weekly Report WE 08.01.09.D.doc
