United States Department of Agriculture
o N RCS
Natural Resources Conservation Service
318 5`h Street
PO Box 127
Hugo, CO 80821
719-743-2408-OFFICE
719-743-2501-FAX
www.co.nrcs.usda.gov
Date: April 19, 2010
Subject: Reclamation Plan for Lincoln County (JAMACO) Pit
To: Lincoln Land Use
The general vegetative survey in the area of the pit location consists mainly of a mixture
of native grasses and miscellaneous forbs on the upland site. The primary grass
consists of blue grama, western wheat, and sand drop seed. Some miscellaneous
perennial/annual forbs are present. For soils description see attachment.
Enclosed is a reclamation plan for the pit located in the NE1/4NE1/4 & NW1/4NE1/4
quarter of section 33, T8S, R53W.
Planning considerations for reclamation of the site consists of:
1. Topsoil should be stockpiled before mining begins and spread evenly over the
surface after reclaimed. Soils must have sufficient depth to support the grass
mixture to be seeded. The area should be shaped to the undisturbed area.
Slopes should not exceed 3:1 and should be flatter where feasible.
2. The seedbed should be well settled and firm but not compacted. If heavy
equipment traffic has compacted the area it should be ripped and smoothed. The
seedbed should be free of weeds.
3. A soil test should be preformed to determine the proper fertilizer requirement in
both types and amounts. In lieu of a soil test the planting area should be fertilized
at a rate at least 40 lbs. of nitrogen and 40 lbs. of phosphate. Animal manure may
be used to supply all or part of the nutrients. Fertilization should occur around
seeding time of the grass.
Helping People Help the Land
An Equal Opportunity Employer and Provider
