10. Acres permitted:
This Application is a request to permit additional parcels of land through an amendment
to an existingI 12c Regular Operations permit (the existing Bettger Pit Permit). The
Bettger Pit expansion will add approximately 22.4 acres to the existing operation's 61.5
acres. The expanded operation will total approximately 87.5 acres. Of this amount,
approximately 58 acres have been significantly reclaimed.
11. Acres affected:
The proposed expansion area, including areas for construction aggregate extraction and
stockpiles, will add approximately 21.3 acres to the affected area. The expansion area
operation is planned to continue the current mining practice of strips or cuts,
approximately 2.4 - 3.4 acres in size. Approximately 5 - 6 cuts will be needed to
complete product extraction in the expansion area. (Each cut will measure 150 ft. by 800
to 1,100 ft.) (Please see the attached Exhibit "C" Mining Plan Map.)
12. Estimated life of the operation:
The estimated life of the Operation is difficult to predict. However, if the market demand
for the product is as in past years, the mine could be expected to be in operation for up to
12 years. This estimate may vary due to market demand.
13. Mine site access:
The mine site contains one point of egress and ingress. The existing operation makes
access to US 6 & 40 off Routt County Road B9. A Routt County access permit and a
Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) access permit have been obtained for
the existing Bettger Pit Operation.
The reason or purpose for this Amendment Application is to extend the life of the Operation and
allow for the mining of sand and gravel on HRLP land. This land is a good source of
construction material for Routt County. This project will not substantially modify the intent and
purpose or spirit of the land use policy that is currently in effect, and will return expansion area
to recreation/rangeland upon completion of mining and reclamation.
Sincerely,
Regulatory Permits Management, Inc.
Consultant & Agent for:
Duckels Construction, Inc. dba Yampa Aggregates
i Encl: Amendment application form, Application exhibits, Attachments and Operator Authorization Letter
Page 4
