• EXHIBIT 5
Vegetation Guideline but requested that a minimum of at least five transects be sampled in
these areas. The results of this limited sampling are presented below.
Plant Cover. The results obtained from the sampling of the 6 plant cover transects on this area
are presented in Table 2.04.10 -6, Wetland Predisturbance Area - Plant Cover. Total plant cover
on this site averaged 59.00 percent and litter cover averaged 38.33 percent.
Native perennial grasses were the dominant plant life form encountered on this site,
contributing 55.17 percent of the total plant cover and 93.50 percent of the total relative cover
found on this site. Native perennial forbs were the second most dominant plant life form,
contributing 2.17 percent of the total plant cover and 3.67 percent of the total relative cover.
Native shrubs contributed 1.17 percent of the total plant cover and 1.98 percent of the total
relative cover. Noxious weeds contributed 0.80 percent of the total plant cover and 0.85
percent of the total relative cover found on this area.
Desert Saltgrass, a native perennial grass was the dominant plant species encountered,
contributing 25.99 percent of the total relative plant cover found on this site. The other
dominant plants encountered were: Spreading Bentgrass, Tall Fescue, Nebraska Sedge, and
Reed Canarygrass which contributed: 17.23, 9.60, 8.76, 7.06 and 5.65 percent, respectively, of
the total relative cover on this area.
The locations of the 6 cover transects sampled in the Wetland Predisturbance Area are shown
on Map 3, Permit Area Vegetation Map. The sample adequacy calculations in Table 2.04.10 -2,
Loadout Area - Sample Adequacy Calculations, document that the number of samples required
to describe this site with respect to plant cover at the 90 percent confidence interval was 14.3
transects.
Production. The results obtained from the sampling of 6 production transects on this area are
summarized in Table 2.04.10 -7, Wetland Predisturbance Area - Production. The average total
herbaceous forage production equaled 66.82 g /1/4 m or 2,381.5 pounds of air dry -dry forage
per acre. Perennial grasses contributed 61.69 g /1/4 m or 92.32 percent of the total herbaceous
forage. Perennial forbs, contributed 4.65 g /1/4 m or 6.96 percent of the total herbaceous forage
production. Annual forbs, contributed 0.48 g /1/4 m or 0.72 percent of the herbaceous forage
production.
The locations of the 6 production transects sampled on this site are shown on Map 3, Permit
Area Vegetation Map. The sample adequacy calculations in Table 2.04.10 -2, Loadout Area -
Sample Adequacy Calculations, document that the number of samples required to describe this
site in terms of total herbaceous forage production at the 90 percent confidence interval was
14.1 transects.
Shrub Density. The shrub density counts obtained from the 6 belt transects sampled in this
area are summarized in Table 2.04.10 -8, Wetland Predisturbance Area - Shrub Density. The
average shrub density was determined to equal 1.83 shrubs per one hundred square meters or
10
