EXHIBIT 5
meters or 721.9 shrubs per acre. Greasewood was the only shrub encountered in the shrub
density transect sampling effort.
The locations of the 25 shrub density transects sampled on the Greasewood Predisturbance
Area are shown on Map 3, Permit Area Vegetation Map. Examination of the sample adequacy
calculations in Table 2.04.10 -2, Loadout Area - Sample Adequacy Calculations, reveals the
number of samples required to describe the shrub density on this area at the 90 percent
confidence interval was 135.6 transects.
INDUSTRIAL
Located in the area between the old refinery located on the east side of the site and Reed Wash,
is an area corresponding to the Industrial Vegetation type. These areas are almost totally devoid
of vegetation and consist of barren refinery sludge or evaporation ponds, or constructed berms
or dikes, roads and excavated barrow areas. For all practicable purposes these areas lack a
defined vegetation plant community and the only plants which can be found growing on these
areas are a few Greasewood plants, Cheatgrass, Purple Mustard and other weedy annual
species. There is only very limited vegetation found on these areas
The total area of the Industrial vegetation type as shown on Map 3, Permit Area Vegetation
Map, is 87.13 acres and this type equals 41.82 percent of the proposed loadout study area and
40.5 percent of the permit area. Very limited disturbance, consisting of a proposed railroad
loop is proposed for this area. There will be a substantial amount of disturbance planned for
this area, but since the exact design is currently unknown. In the pre - consultation meeting held
with Mr. Dan Mathews, he acknowledged that this vegetation type actually corresponding more
closely to a land use rather than an actual vegetation type and as such it would not be necessary
to perform actual vegetation sampling of this area.
IRRIGATED WETLAND
To the west of Reed Wash and to the east of Loma Drain, downslope of the existing Irrigated
Pasture and Cropland areas located to the north of the proposed Loadout Permit Area are
several areas dominated by wetland vegetation that appears to exist as a result of extensive
flood irrigated practices conducted upslope of the proposed Loadout Permit Area. The total
area of the Irrigated Wetland vegetation type as shown on Map 3, Permit Area Vegetation Map,
is 19.17 acres and this type equals 9.20 percent of the proposed loadout permit area. Very
limited disturbance, consisting of a proposed railroad loop is proposed for this area. The actual
amount of disturbance planned for this area is currently unknown, but the disturbance to this
vegetation type will certainly be less than 5 percent (10.42 acres) of the proposed Loadout
Permit Area. As a result of this very small area, this type would technically correspond to the
definition of a minor vegetation type as defined in the CDRMS Vegetation Guideline.
In the pre - consultation meeting held with Mr. Dan Mathews, he acknowledged that this
10 vegetation type would correspond to a minor vegetation type as defined in the CDRMS
9
