ameo
•
The southern Closure Drain resides over the Phase IVa VLF. At closure this area will be
punctured and allowed to drain into the Phase IVa VLF.
4.2.4 Subgrade Preparation
AMEC monitored subgrade preparation, including verification that Ames compacted the
subgrade with a smooth drum vibratory compactor. AMEC verified that Ames removed
protruding rocks from the subgrade surface prior to SLF placement. AMEC verified that the
subgrade surface was moisture conditioned, smooth, and unyielding prior to SLF placement.
4.2.5 Site Grading
AMEC monitored site grading. In areas where the SF contained less than 30 percent by
weight larger than three-quarter-inch particle size, nuclear density tests were conducted to
verify density and moisture content. A total of 68 moisture-density tests were conducted on
128,400 cubic yards resulting in a testing frequency of one per 1,888 cubic yards, exceeding
the minimum testing frequency of one per 2,000 cubic yards.
The majority of the SF contained more than 30 percent by weight larger than
three-quarter-inch particle size, and was placed by method specification (per Specification
2200 Section 3.06).
AMEC verified that the SF maximum particle size of the fill did not exceed 24 inches, and
that lifts were no thicker than one and one-half times the maximum particle size. When SF
was placed for slope reduction, AMEC verified that Ames scarified in-situ materials prior to
fill placement. AMEC verified that Ames made a minimum of four passes with the SDVR
compactor.
0
AMEC Earth & Environmental, Inc.
2000 S.
