November 22, 2010 C-1996-084/Lorencito Canyon Mine KAG
4 1+?
1
9f' al ? ,
i
Bale barriers must extend on the sides of the channel far enough so that flow passes through the center "notch"
(above, red arrow) well before flowing around the edges of the barrier (yellow arrows). The Division recommends
at least eight inches of available depth of flow without flow,
around the edges. Improper installation results in erosion and
downcutting (yellow arrows) as shown at right.
Ditch re-grading has occurred in area W-2 above the bale',;-
barrier installation. Ditch re-grading was also noted above
the west downdrain to Fill 7 in area W-3. Significant grading
of existing ditches was noted in areas W-5 and W-6. Ditch
re-grading appears compete in Area N-2 of both the north and
rte"
west side of the undisturbed center core. Re-grading was also
noted in areas E-1 and E-2.
Additional rill and gully maintenance and repair is necessary in areas S-3 and S-4 above the east downdrain to Fill
7 and in areas C-1 and C-2 in and around the shrub clump area. Non-destructive measures such as straw bales,
check dams, small berms, and straw wattles appear necessary to prevent further downcutting caused by
channelized flows. This work should also be completed this winter season as conditions allow.
Number of Partial Inspection this Fiscal Year: 4
Number of Complete Inspections this Fiscal Year: 1
Page 3 of 5
