Information as to raptor nesting sites or critical deer and elk use areas is not
openly provided to employees or the public except through documents such as this
permit application.
4.6.1.4 Livestock Grazi
Livestock grazing of the mine plan area where the surface is controlled by
Trapper, is and will be managed by agreements with local ranchers. The use level
is established each spring subsequent to consultations with local SCS personnel
as described in Section 4.2.2. This annual evaluation and adjustment of proper
use levels will help insure that adequate forage is left for wildlife use and
that the range is not over used. Management will be for condition and trend.
4.6.1.5 Fires
All fires will be controlled and suppressed as quickly as is possible. Each mine
vehicle has a fire extinguisher mounted on it and personnel are trained in the
proper use of extinguishers and fire fighting strategy. If needed, the Craig
Volunteer Fire Department can be called to assist in a matter of minutes. On
occasion, however, Trapper Mine may employ the use of fire as a controlled burn
for range management.
4.6.1.6 Pesticides and Herbicides
Pesticide and herbicide use is strictly controlled on the Lands within the pro-
posed permit area. Section 3.6.2.6 discusses formulation, application rates and
period of application for these herbicides. Use of herbicides for range improve-
ment programs may be considered and tried under a controlled study situation.
Proper handling and use of herbicides prevent possible injury to livestock and
wildlife. Handling and disposal instructions on the manufacturer's label are
0
4-152
REVISED FEB 13 'B 1
