May Day and Idaho Mine Complex 112 (d) Permit Application
site: to restore a native mid-montane forested land with grade and revegetation to match the surrounding
landscape as much as practicable.
Wildcat will reclaim the affected lands within the May Day Idaho Mine Complex using consistent metho-
dology with respect to final grading (Section 6.4.5(2)(f)(i) in this document), soil preparation (Section
6.4.5(2)(f)(iii) and (v)), and revegetation (Section 6.4.5(2)(d)) due to a generally homogeneity of the land-
scape. The affected lands are located predominately on a single mapped soil unit, with slopes approx-
imately 30-35° and topsoil is less than 6" with rock fragments >15% (Exhibit 1). Vegetation is mixed
coniferous/deciduous forest with vegetation types in the affected lands only varying in the general abun-
dance of species resulting from topographic orientation (Exhibit J).
Wildcat has selected reclamation types specific to the types of facilities located on the affected lands in-
cluding access roads (pre-existing roads and one temporary road from County Road 124 and crossing the
La Plata River), 11 proposed exploration roads (Figure C-1) and drill pads, and 5 Operational Areas. The
five Operational Areas are:
• May Day No. 1 Operational Area (includes portal, mill and associated buildings),
• May Day No. 2 Operational Area (includes run of mine rock storage area),
• Idaho Operational Area (includes augmentation pond and operational buildings),
• Lamb Operational Area (includes run of mine rock storage area), and
• Chief Operational Area (includes vent portal).
In addition, each reclamation types chosen for a facility is tailored to the six mine operation phases de-
tailed in the reclamation schedule below in Section 6.4.5(2)(e) including:
• Phase 1. Preliminary Construction and Reclamation Activities
• Phase 2. Milling Optimization
• Phase 3. Production Phase: May Day No 1. Operational Area
• Phase 4. Exploration
• Phase 5. Production Expansion
• Phase 6. Milling Completion and Closure
Interim reclamation will be conducted for affected areas where mining operations have been completed
during Phases 1, 2, 3, and 5. Exploration reclamation will be concurrent with Phase 4 and final reclama-
tion during Phase 6.
Reclamation Type 1: Interim Reclamation
Road banks and slopes
This reclamation effort includes the temporary access road crossing the La Plata River and grading and
installation of BMPs (Exhibit T-4 SWMP) on existing access roads. Earthmoving will involve grading of
the roads and will address drainage control issues including placement of drainage channels and silt fenc-
ing, wattles, rock barriers, and check dams. Upon completion and where possible, the regraded roadbed
out slopes and edge disturbance will be revegetated with an approved seed mixture and/or covered with
erosion control blankets.
Areas Around Operational Facilities
Interim reclamation during operation will chiefly consist of maintenance issues such as general clean-up
of facilities and continuing weed and erosion control as needed.
May Day Idaho Mine Complex 112(d) Permit Application
September 21, 2010 (REVISED Oct. 22, 2010)
2
