COMMENTS
This was a partial inspection of the Southfield Mine conducted by Jim Stark of the Colorado Division of
Reclamation,Mining and Safety. No one from Energy Fuels accompanied me on the inspection(a call was placed
to George Patterson but there was no answer so a message was left). The Southfield Mine is reclaimed. The
loadout was reclaimed in 1996 and the main mine area was reclaimed in 2001 and 2002 (several small areas
remain unreclaimed). Both the mine site and the loadout were inspected, as discussed below. The weather was
cool,windy and rainy and the ground was wet and muddy.
BACKFILL and GRADING—Rule 4.14 Contemporaneous Reclamation 4.14.1; Approximate Original Contour
4.14.2; Highwall Elimination 4.14.1(2)(f); Steep Slopes 4.14.2,4.27; Handling of Acid and Toxic Materials
4.14.3; Stabilization of Rills and Gullies 4.14.6:
-The backfilled portal and prep plant bench remain stable. There was no cracking or settling noted in the
backfilled areas. These areas were well vegetated and no erosional problems were noted at the time of the
inspection.
-The reclaimed Sediment Pond 1 and Water Treatment Pond 2 area(at the North of the facilities area)was also
stable at the time of the inspection. This area was stable and no settling or cracking in the backfill was observed.

-The reclaimed Fresh Water Pond 3area(north of the refuse pile)was stable and well vegetated. There were no
signs of settling or cracking in the backfill and no erosional problems were noted at the time of the inspection.

-Pond 4 was dry at the time of the inspection. The embankment was well vegetated and appeared to be stable.
