(Page 3)
A question about how the mine pool level is measured and sampled was posed to the Cotter representatives on
site. It was reported that it is through the Steve Adit via a pipe for sample collection and a real time transducer for
the mine pool levels. In addition, it was reported that the mine pool had been accessed through the Sunshine
Ventilation Shaft earlier this summer in order to conduct a depth profile analysis of the mine pool contaminants to
a depth of 800 feet. Results apparently indicated little difference in uranium concentrations throughout the depth
and ranged from 30 to 34 ppm. The Division is hereby requesting a copy of the results of this mine pool analysis
to be submitted with the aforementioned spill report. The Division also requests that future routine mine pool
water quality measurements be included in the periodic water quality reporting to the Division.
The operator is also reminded that the ground water quality analytical results must be provided to the Division as
part of the routine reporting of surface water quality monitoring. To date, the Division has not received any
ground water quality data since the revised Environmental Protection Plan was submitted in July 2010. The most
recent ground water monitoring data that the Division has received is from the May 2010 sampling event. The
Division is requesting that the operator provide all ground water quality data collected since that date. This is cited
as a problem under item 2 on page 4 of this report and must be resolved within 30 days of the date of this report.
An additional problem is that the the operator still has not submitted the spill report that was requested for the
treatment plant overflow and that is required under Rule 3.13. This is cited as a problem under item 1 on page 4
of this report and must be resolved within 30 days of the date of this report.
I & E Contact Address cc: F CE
F BLM
NAME: Randy Whicker F USFS
F HW
OPERATOR: Cotter Corporation IF HMWMD
F OSE
STREET: P.O.
