October 20, 20 10 C-1981-038/Bowie No. 1 Mine JJD <br />and at the reclaimed run-of-mine stockpile area is moderate to good and has helped in controlling erosion. The: <br />revegetative cover on the outslope of the unit train loadout bench was good. <br />There had been recent spraying of thistle at the West Mine. <br />SLIDES and DAMAGE - Rule 4.12: <br />There were no slides or any signs of slope instability on any of the reclaimed slopes at the East Mine and <br />West Mine. The cut slopes of the partially reclaimed highway coal stockpile area and the fill slopes of the unit <br />train loadout bench were stable. <br />SUPPORT FACILITIES - Rule 4.04: <br />No problems with facilities were observed at the unit train loadout. Drilling equipment, including a drill <br />rig, concrete trucks and methane degas equipment were being stored on site. All three gates at the loadout were <br />open. The cable was across the road at the reclaimed run-of-mine stockpile area. No issues were seen with the <br />pump house or the wells at the well field facilities. <br />SIGNS AND MARKERS - Rule 4.02: <br />Mine identification signs were posted at all of the required locations. One sign was up at each of the three <br />entrances to the unit train loadout, one at the partially reclaimed highway coal stockpile area, one at the East Mine <br />entrance, one at the entrance to the East Mine lower pond area, one at the West Mine and an additional one at the <br />West Mine fan area, one at the well field and one at the reclaimed run-of-mine coal stockpile area. In addition„ <br />mine id signs were up along Steven's Gulch road. <br />Surface disturbance markers defined the surface disturbance areas around the mine site. Two subsidence warning <br />signs were up along Steven's Gulch road across from the well field. <br />TOPSOIL - Rule 4.06: i'.:.Removal 4.06.2; Substitute Materials 4.06.4(4); Storage and Protection 4.06.3; <br />Redistribution 4.06.4: <br />There are only two topsoil stockpiles remaining at the Bowie No. 1 Mine. One is located on the west side <br />of the unit train loadout area. The stockpile had a good vegetative cover and the topsoil sign was up. The other <br />topsoil stockpile is located just east of pond no. 3 at the East Mine. This stockpile had a poor vegetative cover.
