,October 20, 2010 C-1980-001/Edna Strip Mine JHB
All three ponds, West Ridge, Center Ridge, and Moffat, all held water and were discharging. Repair to
the Moffat primary discharge structure have continued. a new culvert has been connected to the inlet. No grate
has been secured on the inlet side yet. There was vegetative material stuck up inside the culvert. A telephone
conversation with Troy Summers of WWC on Friday 10/22/2010 clarified that Chevron has been having trouble
with muskrats pulling vegetation into the culvert. Chevron is working to resolution of managing the muskrats.
ROADS - Rule 4.03 ? ? Construction 4.03.1(3)/4.03.2(3) ? ? Drainage 4.03.1(4)/4.03.2(4) ? ? Surfacing and
Maintenance4.03.1(5) and (6)/4.03.2(5) and (6) L1 ?Reclamation 4.03.1(7)/4.03.2(7):
The roads throughout the mine site were dry and in good condition. Both gates were locked with the new
locks. Chevron mining has supplied the Division with the new combination. Two mountain bike riders were
met riding the upper access road. Questioning of them found that Mr. Richard Dick had given them permission to
be on site and provided access to the site. I was unsure if hunters were on site so I recommended they wear
florescent attire for safety. They thought that to be a good idea.
At the north end of the Moffat Pit numerous sheep hoof prints were noted on the roadway. No sheep were
observed grazing on the reclaimed areas, but it was apparent that sheep had moved through the mine site. Sheep
were no seen on adjacent lands, though a sheep wagon was parked along RCR #179 and the North access road.
RECLAMATION SUCCESS - Rule 4.15, Rule 3:
The mine site had not yet had a hard frost as noted by still green vegetation and forbs. Vegetation was
dry, but previously identified weedy areas showed little re-growth or basal sprouting.
SUPPORT FACILITIES - Rule 4.04:
No problems were identified with the facilities area. Surface drainage at the facilities/shop area was good.
Some damage to panels on the shop had occurred, but buildings appear to be still functional.
SEALING OF DRILLED HOLES AND UNDERGROUND OPENINGS - Rule 4.07
RECLAMATION PLAN COMPLIANCE - Rule 4.13
DOCUMENTS RECEIVED
OTHER (SPECIFY)
Number of Partial Inspection this Fiscal Year: 2
Number of Complete Inspections this Fiscal Year: 2
Page 3 of 6
