and Reservoir No. 3 is about 47 acres. The normal water surface of Reservoir No. 1 is
El. 5,041 and that of Reservoir No. 3 is El. 5,048.
PREVIOUS INVESTIGATIONS
Empire Laboratories, Inc. (Empire) performed a geotechnical investigation
(Project No. 955L-86) for the Goose Haven Reservoir Complex in 1986. At the time of
Empire's investigation, the site was being partially mined and the two existing Goose
Haven reservoirs were taking shape. Empire drilled 17 borings throughout the
property and found variable thicknesses of very sandy and silty clays interlayered
with sandy silts overlying sands, gravels, and cobbles underlain by claystone and
siltstone bedrock. Subsequent investigations (listed below) by CTL T confirmed
these soils and bedrocks.
CTL T performed investigations between 2002 and 2010 (CTL T Project Nos.
FC-2511, FC-2740, FC03360.000-125, FC03362.000-145, FC03371.000-125, and
• FC04794.001-145). The first investigations, performed in late 2002 and 2003, were
conducted to help the City evaluate the geology and subsurface conditions for
neighboring properties being considered by the City for expansion of the City's water
storage capability. The 2002 and 2003 investigations identified potentially mineable
sand and gravel deposits and suitable subsurface conditions for construction of a
new reservoir at the Goose Haven Reservoir Complex. The report for the most recent
Geotechnical Investigation by CTL I T titled "Geotechnical Investigation, Goose Haven
Reservoir Complex Expansion, Goose Haven Reservoir No. 2 Lafayette, Colorado".
(CTL T Project No. FC04797.000-145, dated March 10, 2010) summarizes the
numerous previous investigations conducted at this site and describes the
subsurface conditions encountered (see Appendix B). CTL I T incorporated pertinent
information from the previous investigations into this report to complete the ground
water response analysis.
AREA GEOMORPHOLOGY
The Goose Haven Reservoir Complex is located near the right (looking
downstream) or south side of the Boulder Creek Valley (Figure 1). The land surface is
McLAUGHLIN WATER ENGINEERS, LTD. 5
GOOSE HAVEN RESERVOIR COMPLEX EXPANSION
CTL I T PROJECT NO. FC04797.002-145
