performed the translation and run function to complete modeling with the new
reservoir in the model. The model converged and our output data was analyzed. The
estimated groundwater elevation contours after construction of the new reservoir are
presented on Figure 4.
The groundwater elevation data from the model before reservoir construction
was compared with the groundwater elevation data from the model after reservoir
construction to determine the estimated change in groundwater elevation after
reservoir construction. This comparison is presented on Figure 5 and shows
"mounding" of ground water south of the Reservoir complex up to about 8 feet and
very little "depressing" of ground water north of the Reservoir complex.
PRESENTATION OF EFFECT OF RESERVOIR NO.2 ON GROUNDWATER
This study shows no effect on the ground water further south of the complex
than about 800 feet (Figure 5). The estimated rise in the groundwater elevation below
• the Swartz Residence located about 300 feet south of the reservoir complex is about 8
feet at the groundwater conditions prevailing at the time of the field work for this
study. This rise in groundwater elevation would result in a decrease in the depth to
ground water from the ground surface at the Swartz Residence from about 22 feet to
16 feet or an estimated rise to about 6 feet below the basement floor. The estimated
depth to ground water before construction of the new reservoir is shown on Figure 7.
CTl- I T imported the output data from the model into AutoCAD to compare
with input data and existing groundwater conditions. CTL I T overlaid the contours of
groundwater elevations before construction of the new reservoir onto the contours of
groundwater elevations after construction of the new reservoir. This imposition of
groundwater contours is shown on Figure 5.
RECOMMENDATIONS
CTIL T recommends the City place a drain (see Figure A-1 and Appendix A)
along the south side of the new reservoir to reduce the groundwater rise resulting
• from the construction of the Reservoir No. 2 to little or nothing. The drain would
McLAUGHLIN WATER ENGINEERS, LTD. 12
GOOSE HAVEN RESERVOIR COMPLEX EXPANSION
CTL I T PROJECT NO. FC04797.002-145
