Pond 4 was only muddy in the southeast corner of the pond. Pond 001 is the mine water
discharge pond, located immediately north of the mine office. The pond water level about 4
feet below the discharge point and water was not observed being pumped to the pond at any
time during this two day inspection. Two containments retain storm runoff from the West Mine
area. Containment area #1 is located immediately north of the topsoil borrow area as shown
on Map 14 of the approved permit. Sediment has been removed and stockpiled upstream of
the containment for removal to the development waste pile area. The operator should
complete removal of this material prior to the next State inspection. Containment #2 held a
very small amount of storm runoff. Three containments capture storm runoff from the RDA
conveyor/Highway 12 area. The two south of Highway 12 were dry but do appear to have
some sediment accumulation. The containment north of the highway and west of the
conveyor held a small amount of water but a more significant amount of sediment (see arrow
in photo below). The operator should evaluate the need to clean this containment in the near
future.
Processing Waste
Changes as requested by the Division in July at the west downdrain of the refuse disposal
area have been made to ensure that storm runoff enters the downdrain without ponding or
detention where the RDA access road meets the RDA pile surface.
4
