d) Wildlife
No significant amount of wildlife has been encountered during any of the
visits to the site. Normal species appearing at the site could be coyotes,
rabbits, skunks, badgers, and antelope. There are no known threatened or
endangered species.
EXHIBIT C - Mining Plan
a) The mining has already occurred at the site since 1989. Mining in the
expanded areas to the north and east will begin as soon as possible after a
permit is obtained. The operation provides material for road base and other
construction projects. Anticipated life of the pit depends on actual demand for
material but is estimated to be ten years.
b) Since mining has already occurred, additional mining would interface with
what has already occurred. A high wall already exists along the north and
west sides of the north half of the pit. Additional mining will occur there, but
the efforts will begin to break down the existing high wall and prepare the
final 3:1 slopes to the north and west. The addition of area to the north should
accommodate that process. Excavation in the newly added area will first
remove and stockpile topsoil which is approximately 4-5" deep. Mining will
continue as the need for material continues and, as the supply remains
available. Any topsoil stockpile will be seeded with brome grass to prevent
soil erosion. Weeds on the existing stockpile will be controlled prior to
planting the grass.
c) There would appear to be no waste rock or material at the site.
d) Mining is anticipated to a depth of approximately 30 feet. Mining will
continue in the existing opened area as material remains available. The new
area to the east and north will be prepared for mining as the west side is
completed. No final slopes will be left greater than 3:1.
e) The pit will be accessed from Co. Rd. 65. There will be no shop, plant, or
other facilities located at the mine site. The equipment used to mine the
gravel will be a front-end loader, large track hoe, dozer, and trucks. Some
stockpiling of material may be done at the site, but most of the material will
be utilized as it is mined. The anticipated stockpile area is shown on the
mining plan. Processing of material may occur at the site from time to time as
the project dictates.
