May Day and Idaho Mine Complex 112 (d) Permit Application
• Mill will be salvaged, scrapped or buried in underground workings as outlined in Section
6.4.5(2)(a)
• Roads will remain as permanent and not require reclamation
• Affected areas identified on Figure C -4 will be reclaimed in accordance with Exhibit D.
• The new access road will be removed and reclaimed.
6.4.5(2)(e)(iii) An outline of the sequence for each phase of reclamation
Reclamation will be conducted in the phases one through six as outlined in Table E -1 and Sections
6.4.5(2)(e)(i) and 6.4.5(2)(e)(ii).
6.4.5(2)(f) Specifications on Revegetation Factors
6.4.5(2)(f)(i) Final Grading
The maximum graded slope will be 1.5:1.
6.4.5(2)(f)(ii) Seeding
One native grass seed mix is sufficient for all revegetation projects within the affected lands. Table E -2
provides the grass seed mix recommended by the U.S. Department of Agriculture Natural Resources
(USDA) Natural Resource Conservation Service (MRCS) division This seed mix provides a good native
cover crop to stabilize soil surfaces and start the initial successional process to the montane forest. Alter-
natively, a montane seed mix suitable to the Colorado Plateau area could be obtained from a reputable
local seed supply company such as Western Native Seed
Seed broadcasting will be done at a rate of 6.5 pure live seed pounds per acre. The USDA recommends
6.5 pounds pure live seed per acre for reclamation purposes. However, also according to the USDA,
broadcast seeding methods should be used on steep sites and the seeding rate is doubled for broadcast me-
thod. Therefore, the seeding rate will be doubled to 13.0 pure live seed pounds per acre when the seed is
broadcast. The most desirable time for seeding is very late fall so the anticipated seeding time will be on
or near October 15. Access by wildlife and people will be limited until new vegetation is established.
Table E -2.
