September 10, 2010 C-1980-005/Seneca II Mine DTM
their determination regarding the SUP status and need for any further action, if warranted.
BACKFILL and GRADING - Rule 4.14
[]Contemporaneous Reclamation 4.14.1; Approximate Original Contour 4.14.2; Highwall Elimination
4.14.1(2)(f); Steep Slopes 4.14.2, 4.27; Handling of Acid and Toxic Materials 4.14.3; Stabilization of Rills and
Gullies 4.14.6:
The length of the PM-8 Channel was walked. The channel appeared to be stable and held up well this year with
no erosion. Vegetation is becoming established along riprapped and TRM lined sections of the channel.
Significant lengths of the erosion control "V" ditches were also walked, and for the most part the ditches appear to
be stable and functional. Minor scour was observed along an upper segment of the upper "V" ditch (V-Ditch #1).
The scoured segment extends up from the upper end of the TRM liner for approximately 100 yards. The scoured
segment should be reseeded and TRM liner extended up through the segment.
Several rills located up-slope of V-Ditch #1 were graded, and a shallow diversion was installed upslope of the
regraded rill segments to facilitate recovery, as a part of the 2010 rill and gully repair plan. One problem was
noted with the shallow diversion during the inspection; in one location it was evident that water had ponded and
over-topped the diversion, in the immediate location of one of the repaired rills. Further grading is necessary to
establish positive drainage and ensure that the diversion functions as intended to direct runoff away from rilled
areas, and onto well vegetated slope locations that will not be subject to further erosion.
HYDROLOGIC BALANCE - Rule 4.05
[]Drainage Control 4.05.1, 4.05.2, 4.05.3; Siltation Structures 4.05.5, 4.05.6; Discharge Structures 4.05.7,
4.05.10; Diversions 4.05.4; Effluent Limits 4.05.2; Ground Water Monitoring 4.05.13; Surface Water Monitoring
4.05.13; Drainage - Acid and Toxic Materials 4.05.8; Impoundments 4.05.6, 4.05.9; Stream Buffer Zones 4.05.18:
Pond 008 was discharging clear flow through the primary spillway. Embankment appeared to be stable and no
problems were observed.
ROADS - Rule 4.03
[]Construction 4.03.1(3)/4.03.2(3)
? Drainage 4.03.1(4)/4.03.2(4)
[]Surfacing and Maintenance4.03.1(5) and (6)/4.03.2(5) and (6)
[]Reclamation 4.03.1(7)/4.03.2(7):
Within the 008 watershed, the length of the permanent South Road, and South Road "B" were travelled. The
segments of Roads "E-l", "C", and "F" within the 008 watershed were also travelled. The road surfaces and
associated drainage structures appeared to be properly maintained.
Number of Partial Inspection this Fiscal Year: 2
Number of Complete Inspections this Fiscal Year: 1
Page 3 of 8
