perforation operation was conducted in order to ensure a good annular seal between the
7.625 in production casing and the 9.625 inch intermediate casing by way of the
subsequent cement plug.
Plugging Operations--First Phase
ECWS rigged up workover rig R25 on the lA-5HR location at 07:00 hrs on September 1,
2010. The power tongs on the rig were found to be dysfunctional at this time, but
troubleshooting by the rig crew allowed for the problem to be corrected after making
minor repairs. At 15:30 hrs, ECWS ran in the hole with 2.875 inch external upset ends
(EUE) pipe. A rabbit was run through every joint prior to running in the hole to ensure
that the pipe was clear of debris and obstructions. The CIBP was tagged at a depth of
1912 feet, and the pipe was pulled up 14 feet to the next joint to be hung off for the night.
On September 2, 2010 at 09:30 hrs, WR Aggregates poured one cubic yard (201 gallons,
22 sacks) of Portland Type I/II cement with 1% calcium chloride into a 275 gallon
hopper. The cement was pumped downhole using the ECWS mud pump skid with a
centrifugal pump and triplex pump. The cement was displaced from the 2.875 inch
tubing with 450 gallons of fresh water. After pulling up 62 feet an additional 150 gallons
of fresh water was pumped downhole prior to tripping out of the hole with the 2.875 inch
pipe. The 2.875 inch pipe was successfully tripped out of the hole by 11:15 hrs.
Casing Cutting and Removal
At 11:30 hrs on September 2, 2010, the KR fishing hand was on site to run in the hole
with a 7.625 inch grapple releasing spear. ECWS then pulled with 70,000 lbs on the
7.625 inch liner with no pipe movement. At 12:30 hrs on September 2, 2010, the NSI
welder cut tack welds around the 9.625 inch intermediate casing from where the previous
P&A attempt in 2008 cut the 9.625 inch casing. The welder also cut an approximately
1.5 inch wide ring out of the 9.625 inch casing. A second attempt was made to pull up on
the casing, and the casing was pulled on with 60,000 lbs. Prior to pulling more, the NSI
welder cut an additional 4.5 inch out of the 9.625 inch casing; this allowed for a total of 6
inch of downward movement on the 7.625 inch casing at the well head.
A free-point tool was run in the hole by Jet West to a depth of 1435 feet, but the rig brake
was found to be slipping at 75,000 lbs. The rig crew was instructed to tie-back from fast
line to single line pull, but the rig was missing the proper bolts to tie-back safely. The
decision was made to wait on proper U bolt cable clamps before proceeding with the
free-point tool. After 3.5 hrs of downtime waiting for the parts to arrive at the site, the
cable clamps were installed by 17:30 hrs. At 18:00 hrs, Jet West started the free-point
log with the rig pulling 40,000 lbs to 120,000 lbs and back to 40,000 lbs. Non-repeatable
pipe movement was noted between the depths of 1200 and 1435 feet. The free-point tool
was lowered down to a depth of approximately 1650 feet to look for casing collars. The
rig pulled with between 50,000 and 120,000 lbs and back multiple times with still non-
repeatable results. At 18:45 hrs, the free-point tool was dropped down to a depth of 1769
feet. The rig pulled on the casing with between 50,000 and 120,000 lbs multiple times,
Daub & Associates, Inc.
