Natural Soda, Inc.
Plug and Abandonment Report
Horizontal Recovery Well IA-5HR
Prepared for
Natural Soda, Inc.
By
Daub & Associates, Inc.
Summer 2010
Introduction
The Natural Soda, Inc. (NSI) IA-5HR was a horizontally drilled recovery well, drilled in
the Green River Formation in the Piceance Creek Basin of western Colorado. The well is
located on U.S. Department of the Interior, Bureau of Land Management property in the
NW quarter of the NW quarter of Section 35, Township 1 South, Range 98 West, in Rio
Blanco County, CO. The as-built location is 39.926239986° North latitude,
108.365469492° West longitude, referenced to NAD 27. The as-built ground elevation is
6,699.9 feet above mean sea level. Depths mentioned in the text are measured depths
reported relative to ground level.
The primary objective of the IA-5HR was for pregnant sodium bicarbonate fluid
recovery in the currently inactive solution mining Panel 1. NSI initially attempted to cut
and remove the intermediate casing prior to planned plugging and abandonment (P&A)
operations in the IA-5HR well in July of 2008, but the contractor was unable to free the
7.625 inch casing after several cutting and pulling attempts. The decision was made to
attempt the cutting and removal of the casing and subsequent P&A operations at a later
date.
In the Summer of 2010, Jet West Geophysical, LLC (Jet West) based out of Farmington,
New Mexico ran video logs, assisted in the installation of a cast iron bridge plug (CIBP),
and performed the preliminary perforation operations prior to the P&A.
KR Fishing and Rental (KR), based in Rangely, Colorado, provided fishing equipment as
well as a fishing consultant. The fishing hand was on site throughout the 7.625 inch pipe
recovery operations.
The P&A contractor was Eastern Colorado Well Service (ECWS), based out of Fort
Lupton, Colorado. ECWS used workover rig number R25 to remove the casing and P&A
the well. ECWS worked in 12-hour day shifts and traveled to and from location daily.
WR Aggregates, based out of Meeker, Colorado, provided all of the cement for the
plugging operations.
Daub & Associates, Inc.
