September 20, 2010 C-1980-001/Edna Strip Mine JHB
RECLAMATION SUCCESS - Rule 4.15, Rule 3:
SL 11 remains under review. The division had scheduled a follow-up bond release inspection for
September 15, 2010, but has rescheduled this follow-up inspection to the Spring 2011 in order to provide longer
notifiction to landowners and other interested parties. The mine site has not yet experienced a hard freeze yet as
noted by the still green and growing forb species; Cicer milkvetch, yellow sweetclover, and alfalfa. If there had
been a hard frost already, these species would show evidence of it.
Both Moffat Area and West Ridge area were inspected. Vegetation is adequate in both areas. The West Ridge
Area had previously been disturbed prior to the permanent program, as such had little salvaged topsoil and has
different reclamation success requirements in accordance with Rule 4.15.10(1) and permit section 4.4.1.
Previously identified weed patches were revisited during this inspection. Areas identified and treated for Canada
thistle showed no evidence of regrowth or basal sprouting. This observation was specially noted east of the
Moffat pond. Areas identifed as having Houndstongue patches had standing dead stalks, and few basal rosettes.
Though basal rosettes (1 st years growth) of Houndstongue were present, they were diffuse and not present in much
frequency in the West Ridge area.
Occasional patches of Perennial pepperweed were still noted. These were drying up, and it was indeterminate
whether this was due to uptake of herbicide or due to growth stage.
Erosional features were minimal and no previously unreported gullies were encountered.
REVEGETATION - Rule 4.15 ? ? Vegetative Cover; Timing:
Vegetation throughout the remaining reclaimed areas is drying up, typical of late summer conditions.
Other than comments noted previously of identified weed patches, no new problems were observed with the
reclaimed vegetation.
SEALING OF DRILLED HOLES AND UNDERGROUND OPENINGS - Rule 4.07
RECLAMATION PLAN COMPLIANCE - Rule 4.13
DOCUMENTS RECEIVED
OTHER (SPECIFY)
Number of Partial Inspection this Fiscal Year: 2
Number of Complete Inspections this Fiscal Year: 1
Page 3 of 4
