Mud had overflowed from the roadside ditches
and onto the highway. Similar conditions were noted on the county road west of the turnoff to the Broad
Canyon landfill, south of the permit area. This gravel county road crosses a series of natural gullies that
carry flow northward from a ridgeline located to the south. Culverts in place beneath the roadway at
each gully crossing appeared to have become clogged with sediment and debris, which then caused the
flow to back up and overtop the roadway in several spots. Thankfully, these conditions were not
duplicated within the mine permit area. All culverts were checked, and inlet and outlet ends were found
to be clear. The temporary diversion ditch at the northwestern corner of Mining Area No. 3 was
reasonably well vegetated, with no apparent erosion or sedimentation. There was some evidence of
some minor erosion having occurred (possibly due to the recent storm event) in the northern roadside
ditch of the haul road to Mining Area No. 3.
Sedimentation Pond A was dry, but desiccation cracks on the pond floor indicated that minor
ponding of water had occurred sometime in recent weeks. Water was being stored in Sedimentation
Pond B for the first time this season. Approximately two-thirds of the pond floor was submerged.
ROADS - Rule 4.03
Construction 4.03.1(3)/4.03.2(3)
Drainage 4.03.1(4)/4.03.2(4)
Surfacing and Maintenance4.03.1(5) and (6)/4.03.2(5) and (6)
Reclamation 4.03.1(7)/4.03.2(7):
Roads within the permit area were predominantly dry, with a few damp spots. On the steeper
s of the road to Mining Area No. 3, the recent storm event appeared to have been heavy enough to
Number of Partial Inspection this Fiscal Year: 1
Number of Complete Inspections this Fiscal Year: 1
Page 2 of 7
