5.1.1.10 Nalco 7873
Description: Nalco 7873 is a flocculant used in the milling process.
Location: Approximately 10 drums are stored in the Regrind Area of the Mill.
Spill Potential,: Low.
Potential Volume Spilled: Most likely amount would be one drum.
Prevention and Control: Operator care when loading or unloading drums is the best procedure
for prevention of a spill.
Countermeasures: Nalco 7873 is a slimy substance and can best be cleaned up by mixing it
with floor dry, sand, or loose, dry soil. Once mixed together the resultant mixture can be
shoveled into a plastic bag or drum and disposed of in Climax' landfill with the approval of
Climax' Environmental Coordinator.
Nearest Clean-up Equipment: A spill kit is located in the west end of the mill building.
Monitoring: Drums of Nalco 7873 are checked daily during milling operations. When the mill
is shut down the Nalco 7873 drums are checked weekly.
Reporting: All spills of Nalco 7873 which threaten waters of the State of Colorado are subject
to the requirements of Sections 4.2, 4.3, and 4.4 of this SPCC Plan. All spills of 5 gallons or
more should be reported to the Environmental Coordinator by using the "Spill Incident Report"
form given in Appendix 1.
19
