The GVBs will be
utilized by the Bowie No. 2 mine for the first longwall panel developed west of its
existing permit boundary. The project involves utilizing approximately 0.5 miles of an
existing light use road, constructing 0.39 miles of new road and the construction of two
drill pads. Reclamation will consist of restoring the new light use roads and drill pads to
approximate original contour and seeding and sealing the holes.
Right of Entry
The gob vent boreholes are located on surface owned by BRL. The coal is subject to
Federal Coal Lease C-37210. The new road to GVB-10A is located on surface owned
by BRL. The new road to GVB-10B is located on surface owned by BRL and the BLM.
Affected and Disturbed Area
The drill pads will disturb approximately 2.0 acres. The light use roads will disturb
approximately 1.1 acres for a total of 3.1 acres.
Cultural Resources
Grand River Institute Project No. 2435 located in Volume 913 covers all but a small
portion of the proposed disturbed area. The portion of new road to GVB-10B that is
located on BLM managed surface lies outside of this cultural resource inventory. Grand
River Institute project number 2048 located in the Bowie No. 2 Mine, Volume VI, Item
11 surveyed this small area as part of its survey of 1640 acres of BLM administered
lands within the Iron Point coal lease (COC-61209). DRMS can decide whether it is
necessary to have a copy of this report in the Bowie No. 1 mine permit application
package considering that these GVBs will soon be transferred to the Bowie No. 2 Mine.
