sharp bend as it heads downhill, was visually estimated to contain at least 7-8 continuous
acres of whitetop.
Future Weed Management Recommendations
While it is anticipated that Chevron Mining will meet Colorado DRMS weed
management requirements in 2010, noxious weed control should remain an integral part
of vegetation management within the Edna Mine boundaries going forward in order to
ensure that remaining infestations do not reach unmanageable levels.
Canada thistle and houndstongue are likely to continue to persist throughout the eastern
portion of the Moffat area. It is recommended that two application visits per year be
continued in order to continue to reduce the size of the remaining infestations. A late
spring or early summer visit is likely to reduce the amount of plants able to reach
maturity, while a mid to late summer visit should target plants that have sprouted or have
become easily visible prior to setting seed.
Continued treatment of whitetop should consist of one treatment visit per year in late
May or early June. Several small populations were not treated prior to setting seed this
year and may persist or expand in the 2011 growing season. The large patch in the West
Ridge area should be watched closely and managed accordingly if infestations return.
2010 Edna Mine Weed Management Report 4 8/30/2010
