amec?r
A CAT 385 excavator was used to excavate material between stations J6+00 (+/-) and J10+00
(+/-), approximately 75 to 100 feet left of centerline. The material was loaded into CAT 740
articulating haul trucks and placed between stations K8+00 (+/-) and K11+00 (+/-),
approximately 200 to 220 feet left of centerline. Fill was placed in 24" lifts using a CAT D-8
dozer. Each lift was moisture conditioned using a tandem-axel water truck (when necessary)
and compacted using a 10-ton vibratory smooth drum compactor, passing over the entire fill
surface at least 4 times (method compaction technique was applicable).
D) Soil Liner Fill
1) VLF
Soil liner fill material was hauled and stockpiled in temporary stockpiles near stations A26+00
(+/-) and H27+00 (+/-) using 40 ton articulating haul trucks loaded by a CAT 385 excavator.
The SLF was hauled from the East Cresson Clay process (see Figure 2 for previous soil liner
fill placement).
Soil liner fill (SLF) placement continued in the areas shown on Figure 2, hauling from the East
Cresson Clay borrow and temporary stockpile locations. Subgrade was approved and
moisturized prior to placement using a tandem-axel water truck. Placement was performed
using a CAT D-6 LGP dozer, a CAT D-7 LGP dozer and a CAT D-8 dozer in a one-foot
compacted lift. Moisture conditioning of SLF material was performed using a tandem-axel
water truck and compaction was achieved using a 10-ton vibratory smooth drum compactor.
Nuclear density testing, moisture verification, and depth checks were all performed, producing
results within project specifications. Test locations were surveyed by Ames.
E) Low Volume Solution Collection System
1) Low Volume Solution Collection Piping
No work performed during the week.
2) Low Volume Solution Collection Fill (LVSCF)
No work performed during the week (see Figure 5 for previous LVSCF placement).
F) High Volume Solution Collection System
1) High Volume Solution Collection Piping
Placement of the high volume collection system continued at the DCF placement area shown
on Figure 6, advancing in front of the placement. CPeP was placed and sandbagged in
accordance with design drawings and project specifications. The primary geomembrane in the
area was accepted prior to pipe placement.
2) Drain Cover Fill (DCF)
Drain cover fill (DCF) placement within the Phase 5 VLF started. DCF was placed in the area
show on Figure 6. Haul routes, which consisted of five-foot lifts, were spread into two-foot
lifts. The DCF was placed in a 2-foot lift using a CAT D-7 LGP dozer and a CAT D-8 LGP
dozer except where haul routes were established. Laborers were present at all times during
VLF Weekly Report WE 08.21.10.D.docx
