GCC's June 30, 2010 submittal provides DRMS the information needed to
determine increased reclamation costs for the Facility. As discussed in such submittal, GCC has
also identified some structural modifications causing reclamation cost reductions which GCC
will coordinate and work with the Division to address.
5. Ground Water Monitoring. Five ground water monitoring wells have been
installed pursuant to the Mining Permit. These wells are identified as MWO01A, MWO02,
MWO03, MWO04 and MW005. On behalf of GCC, Contour Consulting Engineering has
conducted semi-annual sampling and analysis of the plant's ground water monitoring wells.
MW001 A, which was completed in the Codell Sandstone, and MWO05, which is a shallow well
installed near the St. Charles River, have been determined to be dry and have never been able to
produce enough water to sample.
In its letter dated December 8, 2009, DRMS notified GCC that numeric protection
levels had been set for total dissolved solids (TDS), sulfate, Radium-226 and Radium-228.
According to the letter, GCC is to continue semi-annual sampling and analysis of the ground
water monitoring wells and to submit an annual report of the results. Ground water monitoring
for the first semi-annual period of 2010 was performed on April 30, 2010. All samples were
below the numeric protection levels set by DRMS.
D. COMPLIANCE WITH ALL EXISTING PERMITS AND AUTHORIZATIONS
GCC believes it is in compliance with all applicable requirements except for those certain
items on which it is currently actively working with the State to address.
3
