If the sample liquid contains little or no solids, stir or swirl the contents of the bucket gently.
Using the sampling container, fill the sample bottles (unfiltered samples). For filtered
samples, filter the sample according to procedures outlined in Appendix E, then fill the
sample bottles with the filtered liquid. Correct bottle size, composition, and preservatives (if
required) are indicated in Table 4.
If the sample contains a large amount of suspended solids, stir or swirl the contents of the
bucket gently. Allow the solids to settle to the bottom of the bucket. Dipping from the upper
portion of the bucket, fill sample bottles (unfiltered samples). For filtered samples, filter the
aqueous portion of the liquid according to procedures in Appendix E, then fill the sample
bottles with the filtered liquid. Correct bottle size, composition, and preservatives (if
required) are indicated in Table 4.
5. Label sample bottles. Record the sampling information in the bound field logbook and
• complete the chain-of-custody documents.
6. Properly clean and decontaminate the sampling equipment prior to reuse or storage.
Decontamination procedures are outlined in Appendix B.
4.5 Surface Water Analysis
Specific analytical parameters for surface water samples will be those needed to demonstrate
attainment of applicable in-stream numeric standards. Surface water delivered to the Eagle River
must meet specific in-stream standards for the river segment classification of Aquatic Life Class
1 Cold, Recreation Class 1, Water Supply and Agriculture (Colorado Department of Health
Water Quality Control Commission, 1994). Applicable parameters are summarized in Table 5.
Table 6 summarizes the analytical procedures and reporting limits.
Laboratory analysis will be completed according to EPA's CLP standards. Analysis procedures
for field-collected parameters, (pH, dissolved oxygen, conductivity, and temperature) are
summarized in Appendix F.
CO2080
PRIVILEGED AND CONFIDENTIAL
- --- E Environmental C:IPROJECTS16102.00IUt1176102.001(6l10/96( - - -
