Total <br />mean cover and the variance of the means were also similar. However, differences exist <br />between the 2 areas in plant species composition. The shrubs snakeweed (Gutierrezia <br />sarothrae) and fourwing saltbush (Atriplex canescens) comprised about 17% relative cover in <br />the reference area, but are largely absent in the reclaimed area and were not encountered in <br />any transects. Total cover of perennial herbaceous vegetation was similar between the 2 areas, <br />but consists mostly of forbs in the reference area (especially groundsel, Packera multilobata) <br />14
