This is a reclaimed mine site whose permit was revoked by the Division in
February 1984, and forfeited the reclamation bond. The Division conducted the remaining reclamation using the
remaining bond monies. Reclamation was conducted in 1993 through1995, with some additional maintenance
work conducted in 2000 (Reduced Inspection Frequency Findings 10/4/2002). The Division sampled the
reclaimed areas for vegetative cover and herbaceous production. Methods used followed the Division's 1995
Guidelines. Woody stem data was not collected.
A landowner, Dr. Corley, and his daughter Ann met the Division on site, and provided access to the western
parcels located on the Corley Ranch. Division staff present during the inspections included Janet Binns, Daniel
Hernandez, and Rob Zuber. Elizabeth Schaeffer of OSM-Denver Field Division assisted with the sampling too.
Cover data was collected to species using randomly located 50 M transects, with random compass directions. A
laser point frame projects 10 points per station down to the ground. First hit data was recorded. Stations were
collected every 10 meters along the 50M transect, resulting in 50 points collected along each 50 M transect.
Quarter square meter (0.5 M by 0.5 M) quadrats were clipped by life form for productivity measurements.
Clipped biomass will be oven dried before weighing.
FISH and WILDLIFE - Rule 4.18:
Observations of occasional lizards were made in the East pit. A toad was encountered and a hawk was
observed circling the reclaimed pits. Cattle were grazing on the "tipple" area of the western mine parcels. Cattle
had been in the "orphan pit" area earlier this year.
HYDROLOGIC BALANCE -Rule 4.05
?Drainage Control 4.05.1, 4.05.2, 4.05.3; Siltation Structures 4.05.5, 4.05.6; Discharge Structures 4.05.7,
4.05.10; Diversions 4.05.4; Effluent Limits 4.05.2; Ground Water Monitoring 4.05.13; Surface Water Monitoring
4.05.13; Drainage - Acid and Toxic Materials 4.05.8; Impoundments 4.05.6, 4.05.9; Stream Buffer Zones 4.05.18:
Number of Partial Inspection this Fiscal Year: 0
Number of Complete Inspections this Fiscal Year: 1
Page 2 of 9
