The
Bowie No. 1 Mine records were located at the Bowie No. 2 MIne office,
BACKFILL and GRADING - Rule 4.14 ? ? Contemporaneous Reclamation 4.14.1; Approximate Original
Contour 4.14.2; Highwall Elimination 4.14.1(2)(f); Steep Slopes 4.14.2, 4.27; Handling of Acid and Toxic
Materials 4.14.3; Stabilization of Rills and Gullies 4.14.6:
The general area has received a lot of precipitation in recent months but regraded slopes at the reclaimed
East MIne, West Mine, run-of-mine stockpile area and the partially reclaimed temporary highway coal stockpile
area were stable and showed no signs of slope instability or erosional gullying. No cracks or signs of slumping
were observed. The East Mine received an intense storm on August 3 that damaged ditch riprap but did not affect
the backfilled slopes. However, runoff from the upland diversion ditch at the East Mine ran down the hillside,
crossed Steven's Gulch road and entered Steven's Gulch at the reclaimed run-of-mine stockpile area. As a result, a
little of the backfilled material had to be regraded and the silt fence and ditch riprap had to be repaired. At the unit
train loadout, runoff caused some erosional gullying at the substation bench and will need regrading soon.
EXCESS SPOIL and DEVELOPMENT WASTE - Rule 4.09 ? ? Placement; Drainage Control; Surface
Stabilization:
The West Ridge Waste Pile is finished and reclaimed. The stockpile had a good vegetative cover. The
slopes and terraces of the stockpile were stable and there was positive drainage off of the pile. There were no
indications of slope instability, such as slumping, buldging or cracking. The old waste pile also was stable and had
a good vegetative cover.
Number of Partial Inspection this Fiscal Year: 1
Number of Complete Inspections this Fiscal Year: 1
Page 2 of 7
