Cripple Creek & Victor Gold Mining Company
Cresson Project
Quality Assurance Monitoring and Test Results
Phase 4B/C Triangle Liner Certification
August 10, 2010
areas that were observed to be rough or inadequate, as discussed in Section 6.1.2. AMEC and
Lonestar approved the final surface of the SLF prior to geomembrane deployment.
4.2.3.2 Moisture-Density Test Results
AMEC performed a total of four (4) in-place moisture-density tests of SLF. AMEC compared
results of the field moisture content and density tests to the Proctor dry density and optimum
moisture content values of material with similar gradation and plasticity characteristics. Proctor
dry density and optimum moisture content values for samples with greater than ten percent plus
three-quarter-inch material were corrected according to ASTM D4718 to facilitate direct
comparison to nuclear density values. The moisture-density testing frequency of approximately
one test per 75 cubic yards exceeded the minimum specified testing frequency of one test per
500 cubic yards. Nuclear density tests performed for the Phase 4B/4C Triangle certification
SLF are summarized in Table 6. Holes made in the SLF during testing were filled by tamping
fine SLF or bentonite material into the holes.
4.2.3.3 Depth Verification
AMEC drilled a total of two (2) holes in the compacted SLF to verify that the minimum 12-inch
compacted depth had been achieved. AMEC monitored the SLF depth verification tests and
documented results. Depth verification holes were filled with bentonite chips and water. Both of
the holes drilled into the SLF had compacted depths of 12 inches. The testing frequency
exceeded the minimum specified testing frequency of two measurements per acre. The SLF
depth verification results are presented in Table 7.
4.2.4 Drain Cover Fill
AMEC provided visual monitoring of DCF placement. One AMEC monitor and at least two
Ames laborers were present monitoring each dozer, unless two dozers were within
approximately 50 feet of each other during DCF placement. AMEC verified that wrinkles in the
geomembrane did not fold over, that PVC grade markers were placed at grade breaks, and that
unsuitable material was not present in the fill. AMEC continuously inspected geomembrane
during DCF placement, and marked areas for repair, if required. If needed, any repairs were
documented and AMEC verified the repairs were completed. After final grading, AMEC
monitored removal of PVC grade markers.
4.2.5 Temperature Monitoring
AMEC monitored ambient air temperatures using a digital thermometer. Temperatures were
monitored throughout the day. The lowest and highest daily temperatures are summarized in
Table 2.
S:\PROJECTS\1125E CCV CQA\H2 - DESIGN\TRIANGLE\FINAL\TRIANGLE CERTIFICATION REPORT FINAL REVI.DOC 12
