After 17 years, my husband, also a native of Western Montrose
County, and I moved back to the area to raise our son so he too could realize
the many advantages of growing up in a small-western town. My husband
Rick runs a family owned and operated bulk oil/ fuel business that has been
in operation since 1948. Uravan Supply opened its doors to service the
Uranium mines and eventually Peabody Coal and now the New Horizon
Mine. This too is a family owned and operated business that to this day,
depends upon mining, agriculture, school districts, county districts,
emergency/ medical, fire districts, Tri-State G&zT and most importantly the
consumer in this area. In addition, just like all of the area small business
owners/ operators, Uravan Supply has witnessed first hand the adverse
poht cabeffect-of what-shutting-downs-mine-does-to-a-community-and-their
livelihood.
As previously mentioned, growing up in this community, I've
witnessed the mining of Peabody Coal and have strong remembrances of
what the land looked like in the current reclaimed areas and being an
employee of the New Horizon Mine for the past 12 years, have witnessed the
mining and reclamation process and am confident that it has been returned
to land that is as good, if not better than what previously existed.
Hopefully by now, I have been successful in painting a picture for you
of not only our family history but the importance of our mining industry in
our communities and for all involved. I know for me and my family, we
depend on the New Horizon Mine and the benefit it not only provides us as
a family but for the entire surrounding communities and therefore strongly
urge you to approve PR06 so we as employees can continue the mining and
reclamation process, knowing the Morgan prime farmland and other
properties are protected in this process but to allow the members of this
and surrounding communities to realize the benefits as well.
Kind Regards,
*Roln
