I am asking or writing you this letter urging approval of PR06 on the
Morgan property. The ground that we have disturbed or mined at this time
was never farmed except for maybe 10 to 15 acres, and half of that was
being cleared for farming when we came on to the Morgan's , Garrett's, and
Benson's properties on the West side of 2300 rd. Nucla Colorado.
My personal opinion is that Mike and Jo Ellen Morgan have worked as the
farmers of the reclaimed ground and they have done a good job. They have
been watching everything since we have started on they're property. First it
was the giving away of the wood that we knocked down, (100 yr old
cottonwood trees) we could not push them in the pit to get rid of them, so the
mine let folks from the community cut the wood for home use. Then there
were water issues with weld together plastic pipe. Then a fence was installed
to keep livestock off mine property and problems with the fence (I know for
a fact because I built most of it). Then as employee Mike and Jo Ellen
Morgan were terminated or lost the farming contract. I personally think with
out the job they both had nothing else to do but to find fault with everything
that was being done to the land.
The reclamation that we have done to the other land owner's property, prior
to theirs, has and will be worth 10 times more and produce 10 times more
than it ever has in the past 50 years.
I have been on all councils, town, hospital, fireboard, school athletic,
fireman for 21 years, I know most everyone in this small community. I have
lost most of my family to mining uranium, gold, coal, and copper, both open
pit and under ground.
Colorado was formed around mining I know the rules have changed so much
and for the better. I want to stay here in Nucla and probably die here but I
don't want to go out broke. Thank you for your time. Please help us keep all
21 of our jobs.
Sincerely,
Michael E. Zunich
