I was born and raised in Nucla Colorado. I have chased coal
mining for the last 37 years, from Nucla Co. to Hayden, CO. to Coalstrip,
Montana back to Nucla,Co. then to Kenyenta, Az.. For the last 17 years I
have been mining coal with Western Fuels Co. LLC here in Nucla Co. I am
58 years old and own two pieces of properties in Nucla, Co.
This mine Western Fuels Colorado is the most CYA I have ever worked for
in my life, Training, Paper work, The mine even has all of 2000 plus ground
breaking shots on video, both overburden and parting shots.
I have operated a little of everything that we have at the mine, my title is
shovel operator; I have been in this position since 04-17-1994. The other
mines that I have work in did not ever have reclamation with in 1000 ft. of
the pit area like we do at New Horizon Mine, I know for a fact that the
bosses wanted 10" to 18" of top soil set back down for finished product. I
and 3 others were the scrapper operators at that time and we were laying
down 20"to24" of topsoil. Matter of fact we were to pick some back up and
did not, because the whole lay out would have been notice SEVERELY.
