July 28,2010
C-1982-057/Seneca Il-W Mine DTM
• Maintenance including installation of replacement straw wattles at culvert inlets, maintenance of silt
fence/straw wattle installations below culvert outlets, and maintenance or replacement of TRM liner along outlet
channels is warranted at a number of the culvert installations along Road"J".
• Extensive weed control efforts along cut and fill slopes have reduced the extent of Canada thistle
infestation, but some patches remain and control efforts will need to continue. Perennial vegetation establishment
is improving, but bare areas remain in some locations(likely where dense thistle patches previously existed), and
spot seeding of these locations is warranted.
• Small areas of settling along road cuts and fills noted in recent inspections(road segment between north
end and vicinity of Topsoil Stockpile XX) appear to be stabilizing; visual monitoring warranted.
• There is a slight dip in the road in the vicinity of the access route to Topsoil Stockpile XX,and there is a
rill down the road fill slope from concentrated flow. A TRM lined channel would appear to be warranted in this
location.
Road "K"
• Cut and fill slopes along the segment of Road"K"that has been reduced for the postmining land use are
well vegetated; road surface and drainage structures are in good condition.
• Reclamation grading along the fully reclaimed segment of the road looks quite good, and blends in very
well to slopes above and below the disturbance corridor. Bank sloughing along the middle portion of the TRM
lined reclaim channel south of former Topsoil Stockpile CCC has narrowed the channel and dislodged the TRM
liner; maintenance is warranted.
• There is good establishment of seeded vegetation along most of the reclaimed road segment, although
there are patches of Canada thistle scattered along the segment that will need to be sprayed. There are heavy
stands of bull thistle along the south facing slope segment above Pond 17,that also requires treatment.
Ridgeline Light Use Road(LUS)
The road ditch along the steep segment between Channel PM-2E and the low gradient segment of road along the
eastern ridgeline has incised, and stabilization(TRM,riprap, or rock checks) is warranted.
RECLAMATION SUCCESS -Rule 4.15 Rule 3:
Over-all,reclamation to date at II-W would be considered largely successful given the relatively early stage of
reclamation, but there are areas of concern with respect to mass stability, surface stabilization, and noxious weed
management. These concerns are addressed within previous sections of this report.
REVEGETATION—Rule 4.15
❑Vegetative Cover;Timing:
Revegetation success on older reclaimed areas is variable across the site, but vegetation across most of the original
permit area could be characterized as diverse and effective in controlling erosion.
