s C-1982-057/Seneca II-W Mine DTM
July 28,2010
ridentified
he ground along drainage segments not walked on this or previous 2010 DRMS inspections. The operator will
d to conduct a thorough ground check to ensure that all erosional features that require repair in 2010 are
and properly repaired.
FISH and WILDLIFE—Rule 4.18:
As is usually the case, evidence of deer and elk use of the reclaimed areas was widespread. Elk tracks and fresh
droppings were particularly abundant in the upper PM-3 drainage, and elk could be heard mewing and chirping in
the undisturbed aspen stand along the edge of the reclamation. A mature buck antelope was also observed along
PM-3. A sharptail grouse was flushed from an area of sagebrush/grass/alfalfa cover in the upper 006-NE3
watershed, and other sharptails were heard clucking in the vicinity.
HYDROLOGIC BALANCE -Rule 4.05
❑Drainage Control 4.05.1,4.05.2, 4.05.3; Siltation Structures 4.05.5, 4.05.6, Discharge Structures 4.05.7,
4.05.10; Diversions 4.05.4; Effluent Limits 4.05.2; Ground Water Monitoring 4.05.13; Surface Water Monitoring
4.05.13; Drainage—Acid and Toxic Materials 4.05.8; Impoundments 4.05.6,4.05.9; Stream Buffer Zones 4.05.18:
Drainage and sediment control structures were in general well maintained and functional, with minor maintenance
warranted in a couple locations. Most stock ponds contained water and embankments were stable. Spillway
maintenance was noted to be necessary in one location.
Sediment Ponds
• Pond 005 was observed on the morning of 7/30. Water level was 18"below top of primary riser; no
discharge.
• Pond 006 was observed on the morning of 7/29; discharging clear flow over the top of the riser.
• Pond 017 was observed on the afternoon of 7/29; discharging clear flow over the top of the riser.
• Pond 016A was observed on the afternoon of 7/29; discharging clear flow over the top of the riser. The
Pond in-slope slump noted in previous inspections is being addressed within the context of the slide remediation
plan for the entire slide complex in the vicinity of Pond 016/016A and the nearby shrub plot. The slide
remediation plan technical revision application(TR-73)was submitted to the Division on 8/5/2010, and is
currently under review. The Pond 016A embankment appeared to be stable, and flow out of the French drain
below the 016A embankment was flowing at normal rate.
• Pond 016 was observed on the afternoon of 7/29; discharging clear flow over the top of the riser.
• Pond 009 was observed on the afternoon of 7/30. Water level was approximately 1 foot below top of
riser; no discharge.
• Pond 015 was observed on the afternoon of 7/30; discharging clear flow over the top of the riser.
Most reclaimed area stock ponds contained pools of water. The spillway outlet channel on Stock pond T-25 in the
lower Pond 17 watershed had undercut the TRM channel liner. Riprap installation is warranted at this location.
Number of Partial Inspection this Fiscal Year: 0
Number of Complete Inspections this Fiscal Year: 1
Page 6 of 19
